Seylan Bank encourages home cultivation among staff with free seed distribution

Colombo, July 21, 2022: Seylan Bank, the Bank with a Heart, encouraged its employees to join the home cultivation drive to help them face the challenge of increasing food prices by growing essential vegetables and fruit plants at home. As such, the Seylan Staff Welfare Association partnered with the Department of Agriculture to distribute plant seeds free of charge among the staff who were interested.

The project is aptly named as Suhada Hadin Apith Wawamu, to grow with a good heart, and aims at encouraging the staff to take on home cultivation thus empowering them during the current crisis situation in the country. The selected plant seeds are recommended by the Department of Agriculture for cultivation in limited spaces, such as apartments and housing complexes, and to give short term yield to support the daily vegetable consumption of a household.

“While we provide simplified solutions for our customers at Seylan Bank, as a responsible entity we also focus on how we can enrich the lives of our team members. Especially during trying times like now, we need to ensure that we carry out initiatives that will add value to everyone’s lives. We are pleased that we could partner with the Department of Agriculture to source these plant seeds that were distributed among our staff and would like to thank them for their valuable advice. We began this drive at the Seylan Head Office and we hope to expand it across all our branches and empower our staff throughout different levels in the organization,” stated Jayantha Amerasinghe, Deputy General Manager – HR at Seylan Bank.

As the Bank with a Heart, Seylan Bank’s commitment to enrich not only their external but also their internal stakeholders’ lives have been evident in the many initiatives that the Bank has continuously implemented, especially through their CSR projects.
