Manager/ Senior Manager – Legal
To be a Team Leader for all matters connected to Wholesale Banking (WB) including local and foreign transactions and be accountable for all legal aspects of WB.To lead/guide/advise and supervise the work of subordinates in the Team and be answerable to VP Legal regarding all matters pertaining to WB legal work.
The Job:
- Supervise and guide the team in Drafting/pursuing commercial agreements /security documents ,other legal instruments related thereto and terms and conditions for various products of the WB and negotiating same with the clients/external lawyers /BOI and other Financial Institutions and thereby protecting the Bank from potential risk by ensuring that relevant legal documentation is in order
- Provide holistic legal opinions and necessary advice on security documents ,offer letters ,structuring of facilities and any other matter pertaining to WB in a concise and clear manner in order to mitigate the risk to the Bank
- Supervise and guide the reviewing of Powers of Attorney (POA),Board Resolutions (BR) and other documents pertaining to account opening and other matters and drafting of documents for WB
- Supervise and guide the subordinate/s in checking the titles of the properties to be mortgage and making recommendations on title
- Guide the other lawyers in the Bank and providing assistance for Islamic Banking legal matters
- Update records of all legal fees of the bank in a timely manner
- Attend to the legal requirements of branches and other business units and Banks fully owned subsidiaries when the need arises mainly focusing on the drafting and execution of security documents/Agreements and connected matters
- Identify automation /digitization opportunities that will enhance productivity /accuracy/reduce cost /other benefits without compromising on risk
- To establish a robust control environment that is periodically reviewed & strengthened to ensure compliance with all applicable policies
- Managing performance ,developing and motivating Team members ,provision of formal and informal feedback, appraisal and such others
Entry Requirements
- Be an Attorney at Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and possess at least 10 years’ experience in Company Law and Banking Law
- Degree/ Professional qualification in Law from a recognized University will be an added advantage
- Possess excellent Internal stakeholder management and negotiation skills
- Be a strategic thinker with commercial acumen
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Possess excellent leadership and relationship management skills
- Possess a minimum rating of “Meets Expectation” for the last performance year
- Should not have a disciplinary inquiry under investigation
