SENIOR MANAGER / UNIT HEAD (SUSTAINABILITY) – MARKETING & SUSTAINABILITY DEPARTMENT

You should ideally;

  • have a minimum of 5 years of experience, including managerial experience in Sustainability, preferably in the banking sector
  • possess a degree in Finance, Business Administration, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field. Post-graduate qualifications such as a Master’s, focusing on Sustainability or Finance, can be an added advantage
  • have significant experience in Sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), or related roles, preferably within the Banking or Financial services industry. This might include working in sustainability strategy, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) integration, or stakeholder engagement
  • understand that banking operations, financial products, services and its value chain are important for the integration of sustainability practices into the Bank’s core business activities
  • have a deep knowledge of sustainability principles, environmental regulations, climate change issues, and social impact considerations relevant to the banking sector. Familiarity with sustainability reporting frameworks such as GRI, IR, SLFRS S1 and S2 is required
  • possess strong financial analysis skills, which are necessary for evaluating the financial implications of sustainability initiatives
  • Ability to develop and implement sustainability strategies aligned with the Bank’s overall business objectives. Experience in setting ambitious sustainability goals, monitoring progress, and adapting strategy in response to changing market conditions
  • possess skills in engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, investors, customers, and community organisations, to promote sustainable banking practices and build relationships
  • understand the relevant regulations, guidelines, and industry standards related to Sustainability disclosures, ESG disclosures, and responsible banking practices
  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to communicate complex sustainability concepts to diverse audiences is vital
  • possess strong leadership qualities necessary for driving change, fostering a culture of Sustainability within the organisation, and inspiring teams to achieve sustainability goals
  • have the ability to identify sustainability challenges, develop innovative solutions, and navigate complex regulatory environments in the banking sector
  • possess the ability to build and maintain relationships with industry peers, sustainability organisations, and other stakeholders to stay informed about emerging trends, best practices, and opportunities for collaboration
You will be responsible for;

  • overseeing the implementation and achievement of the overall sustainability strategy of the Bank
  • implementation of the Sustainability Strategy includes the six cross-cutting themes for CSR (6Es)-Environment, Education, Elderly, Emergency Relief, Exercise, and Entrepreneurship, which serve as guiding principles for the Bank’s commitment to sustainability across its operations and initiatives
  • be the driving force of the sustainability subcommittees, task forces, sustainability champions, and 6E champions
  • recommending to the senior management of new areas to be implemented under the strategy, including new sub-committees or task forces
  • acting as the secretary of the Sustainability Trust and carrying out responsibilities as a trustee
  • acting as the Secretary/Convenor of the Executive Sustainability Management Committee
  • driving the net neutrality initiative by calculating the carbon footprint/obtaining relevant assurances, setting up systems and procedures for carbon footprint data capture in collaboration with other departments and task forces
  • conducting a gap analysis of the ESG framework of the Bank against standards, with the assistance of an external consultant
  • training staff on sustainability aspects
  • adherence to requirements of regulators, such as the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on Sustainability, as well as sustainability principles of Sri Lanka Banks’ Association and IFC Performance Standards
  • implementing sustainability reporting standards, such as GRI, IR, SLFRS S1 and S2 and reporting on the implementation of the sustainability strategy to internal stakeholders
  • drafting and obtaining approval for new policies/revising existing policies related to Sustainability, as required and ensuring adherence to policies related to Sustainability
